Our Editorial for the Frontiers Research Topic Unraveling GI Cancer Heterogeneity Through Single-Cell Multi-Omics Approaches has been published in Frontiers in Genetics.

Beyond the paper itself, I am especially glad to have contributed to shaping this Research Topic, which highlights the potential of single-cell technologies and spatial transcriptomics to decode GI cancer heterogeneity.

Gastrointestinal cancers represent a major global health burden, accounting for 26% of cancer incidence and 35% of cancer-related deaths. Their clinical complexity is deeply linked to genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity, tumor microenvironment dynamics, and a recent worldwide increase in incidence among younger individuals.

These challenges are precisely what motivated the Research Topic, which brings together recent work exploring how single-cell technologies, spatial transcriptomics, and multi-omics approaches can help decode the complexity of GI cancers.

The collection brings together 7 articles and 21 authors, and has already reached 23.3K views.
