Two weeks in University of Waterloo at the Nengo Summer School
I went there to learn about Neuromorphic Computing. I came back having learned something harder to put on a CV, though I’m still not sure what to call it.
The project: gesture recognition with a spiking CNN, mapped to robot movements, with a continual learning pipeline so you could teach the robot to recognize a new gesture on the fly. Sounds clean. It was not clean. But it worked, eventually, depending on the gesture. 🤖
The real takeaway is that being in a room with people who think differently about the same problems is genuinely useful. You leave with a few questions you didn’t have before.
Thanks to the organizers and everyone who made it worth the jetlag.
